Aidan received care at the Duke Children's Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in 2008. Every June and December we return with donations of supportive, practical items such as gas cards and books for families with babies in the NICU. We believe in building personal connections, offering hope, and sharing words of encouragement.
We bring books to families with babies, as reading enhances bonding between parents and children, builds a foundation for literacy, and teaches positive thinking, problem solving, and empathy, among other things. Furthermore, we believe each family's own stories are important. Our Aidan was born with an underdeveloped cerebellum and was ultimately unable to breathe on his own. A powerful theme of his short life was his courage, his heart. We think of him as our "Little Lion", and through our work we have met many other babies whose narratives of bravery are inspiring.
We support other local (Raleigh-Durham area) 501(c)(3) nonprofits that help parents and babies, and we have been involved with events such as the March of Dimes' March For Babies (from 2012-2016) to increase awareness in our community. We've also provided donations and support to Early Head Start classrooms as well as programs helping children and families fleeing domestic violence.
Our mission is to provide practical, supportive items for families of infants with medical, developmental, and other needs, to raise awareness of issues affecting parents and babies, and to strengthen parent-child bonds while promoting literacy through gifts of children's literature.
